As the Director of Lydia Ministries International, and the director and coordinator
of TEAM KENYA 2009, I wish that I could say that I was the one responsible for selecting the team leaders. The truth is, I
believe that God is hand picking each of these team leaders. This wouldn't be more true for anyone than for Sondra
Spotts, our TEAM KENYA 2009 Team Chaplain! I met Sondra on my way
to Kenya in 2008 in the Amsterdam airport. I was coming out of the ladies' room, and I believe Sondra overheard me saying
to someone else that I was on my way to Kenya. It was only minutes until Sondra was offering to pray with me. Boy, did
I need it! I was tired. I had a very long layover in the airport, and after about 28 hours of straight travel, I needed
sleep, too. Sondra invited me to go over and spend some time with her, and with the people from her church, whom
she was traveling with. She was a true blessing! After I had returned
home, I received an email from Sondra, and we briefly corresponded. Then, in March, God once again connected Sondra
and I. When I told Sondra I was planning this mission to Kenya, she was ready to go! Of course, she had some things
to work out, as most of our team members do, but I could tell that at least in her heart she was in. As I prayed about Sondra's role in the team, I realized that she was so well gifted
in ministering to others, she would be wonderful as a leader within the team. Her passion for ministry really touched
my heart, and I could see her ministering to our team members. It was only a very brief time before I asked Sondra if she
would consider being our team chaplain. To my joy, she agreed.
Sondra has become so much more than team chaplain in the short time since she signed on to TEAM KENYA! She has truly
become my right hand! Sondra gave up her Easter week-end, and at her own expense, flew down to N.C. to help me put together
a top-notch team training manual. She has been such a tremendous force in helping me with the planning stages of our team
training, and in helping me to flesh out some of the finer points of TEAM KENYA 2009. Not only this, but she has quickly
become more than a friend, she has become a sister. I really felt
a pain of loss when Sondra and I said good-bye at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport on Easter Monday. It
is not often that I meet a person who is as gifted, talented, passionate, trained, and committed as Sondra is!
TEAM KENYA 2009 is truly blessed to be able to call her our TEAM Chaplain! Sondra
will coordinate our group worship and daily devotions, but she will have a much larger role than even this.
Sondra will be present to minister to the spiritual needs of our team, as we grow and stretch and exercise
spiritual muscles as we minister to Kenyans in Nairobi and Namanga. Her presence and leadership will bring an awareness
to not only our own spiritual growing pains, but she will also strive to increase our awareness to the
spiritual needs of those aournd us. I couldn't be more excited to introduce our team chaplain than to introduce to
you, Sondra Spotts.
Sondra L. Spotts of Harrisburg, PA, grew up
in a Christian home but backslid in her senior years of high school. In March of 1977, she recommitted her life to the Lord
and has been serving Him ever since. Sondra
is married to Donald and has three children -- Michael, 38 (he’s married to Ann and the father of Logan, 6, and Madison,
4); Zachary, 26, who is getting married in October, 2009; and Naomi, 20, a junior at Temple University. She is a retired teacher,
having taught middle and high school Bible and 11th grade English at Harrisburg (PA) Christian School. She is also a former
newspaper editor and has both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Biblical Studies. She works part-time for
Weight Watchers and is a Premier Designs jewelry consultant. Her hobbies include studying the Word of God, reading, and spending
time with her grandchildren. Her favorite Christian music group is Glad, and music by Matt Redman, David Crowder, and Chris
Tomlin is at the top of her praise and worship “play list.”
The Lord has given Sondra a “pioneering spirit,” and she has been used to train and establish prayer/altar ministry
teams and prophetic teams in various churches in Central Pennsylvania. She has taught discipleship courses and Bible studies,
“Communicating God’s Heart” (school of the prophets), women’s groups, children’s and nursery
classes, and small groups. She has worked as a church secretary/treasurer and administrator. She presently attends Cornerstone
Fellowship, where she is Prayer Coordinator, Sozo (altar ministry) Team leader, and Education Director (overseeing all the
church’s education, nursery through adult, women’s ministry, and small groups). She has been on a missions trip
to India (1999) with her niece Tina to teach in a Bible college and minister at a women’s conference and in churches
in Kerala state and to Kenya (2008) with three people from her church to teach pastors at a conference and hold outdoor crusades
in Nairobi. She also organized a trip to a Florida inner city for outreaches with a group of her students from HCS.
Sondra met Susan in the Amsterdam Airport
when the plane she (Sondra) was traveling on was late getting in from Detroit. The team had several hours to wait at the airport
before getting re-routed to Paris and then to Nairobi. It was in the women’s shower area where Sondra overheard Susan
tell another woman she was going to Nairobi. In one of those “God times,” the two women got to talking and praying
together and eventually went their separate ways. After a brief exchange of emails last fall, they lost contact. The Holy
Spirit re-connected them at the beginning of March, and Susan invited Sondra on this year’s trip. As team chaplain for TEAM KENYA 2009, Sondra’s role will
be to minister to the spiritual needs of team members, facilitate daily devotions, encourage members to be aware of the spiritual
needs of those we encounter, to recognize members’ gifts and talents, and to embolden them to “stretch their tent
pegs” and allow the Holy Spirit to work through them to accomplish God’s agenda for the mission.

Dear TEAM KENYA 2009 member, As your Team Chaplain, I just
want to welcome you on this adventure God has in store for all of us!! When Susan asked me to pray about joining Lydia Ministries International
on this trip to Kenya, it didn’t take me long to discern that it was God’s will that I go. Shortly after my commitment,
she asked me if I would consider being Team Chaplain. I just want to share my heart for you and to let you know I have been
praying for you since that time. I am already so very excited to think that our God has brought us all together for His plans
and purposes -- not only for the pastors, women, and children in Nairobi and for the Maasai tribe in the bush land -- but
also for us as individuals and as a team! I believe that there are things He wants to accomplish in each
one of us as we participate with His precious Holy Spirit in following His agenda for Kenya 2009. After all, He is the One
Who does exceedingly, abundantly above all we could ever think or imagine -- El Shaddai -- the God Who is too much! I perceive
my role as one of encouragement for you as you step out to do His will and bring a touch of His kingdom to Kenya. As Team
Chaplain, I will be available to you to pray with you; encourage you to be aware of not only your needs but the needs of other
team members and the Kenyans around us; and to walk with you as God “stretches” you in areas of your faith. You
will probably get sick of me telling you that “you can do all things through Christ Who strengthens you” or “you
CAN do this in the power of the Holy Spirit” or “God gives grace!” These are NOT just cliches to me but
promises from His Word that we can “take to the bank!” If you should need me at any time, please feel free to knock on
my door or pull me aside, and I will be glad to pray with/for you. Everything you share with me will be held in the strictest
confidence. Blessings, anticipation, and joy in serving Him, Your
Team Chaplain, Sondra Spotts
